Himachal Drowning Accident : Seven Youth from Punjab Drown in Gavindsagar Lake in Una

Seven people were drowned and feared dead in Govindsagar lake in Una district of Himachal Pradesh today, said Una district police.

“Seven youth were drowned in Govindsagar lake in Una district today when they ventured into water for swimming. Six of the friends jumped into the lake to save the seventh who went drowning in the deep water but all seven went missing during their rescue efforts,” said Arjit Sen, SP police Una.

A group of eleven friends from Mohali in Punjab had come to visit Garibnath temple in Una district and on their way they decided to swim in the Govindsagar lake touching Una district. One of them lost control during swimming and began drowning in the water. Other six out of eleven jumped into the lake to save the drowning youth and none could come back as they went missing in deep muddy water,” informed a Himachal Pradesh state government disaster management authority spokesman here today.

Himachal Pradesh government has begun the rescue operation with the help of professional divers to search the missing seven youth but till now have not succeeded tracing anyone.
