Shimla, Oct 8

The Himachal Pradesh government on Saturday decided to evacuate the two foreign tourists hailing from Belgium who got stuck in snowy Bara Bhangal valley in Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.

“We have asked the Indian Air Force to airlift the two Belgian tourists from Bara Bhangal who have requested the district administration for their evacuation from this snowy region,” said the Kangra Deputy commissioner Nipun Jindal.

The Kullu district administration has also dispatched a rescue team of professional people to bring back the 2 foreign nationals as reaching  the Bara Bhangal valley is easier from there.

Two foreign nationals who had gone on trekking to this snowbound valley, have been identified as Peter Van Geit (male) and Sneha (female) both belonging to Belgium. They are stuck up in Devi ki Marhi II Shepherd rock shelter in the snowy valley for over 4 days and are running out of food now. They have sent a message to a private adventure group based in Tirthan valley in Kullu, asking for the rescue. This snowy geography located at an altitude of  over 14,000 feet, is very inhospitable and the female Sneha is suffering from snow blindness, incapable of seeing while walking.

The Kangra district administration is in contact with the tourists, and is monitoring the situation to help out in rescuing the both Belgian nationals.
